Phone numbers
Toll-free number
A toll-free number is a phone number the person calling does not pay for; the receiving party does.
How it works
In the North American Numbering Plan they begin with 800, 833, 844, 855, 866, 877 or 888, and they have no geographic area. They identify a business line, not a place.
A toll-free number is a poor target for text messages unless the owner has enabled messaging on it, and it should never be validated as a personal mobile number.
Route toll-free numbers by what you plan to do with them. A call to one can be forwarded to any ordinary line, so the number says nothing about where the business sits. When you screen a lead list, tag these numbers as business lines, and look for a direct or mobile number at the same company if you need to reach a person by text.
