Validate a list exported from Meet Alfred

A guide to sorting the email addresses in a CSV file exported from Meet Alfred's Connections page, separating personal mailboxes from free providers, throwaway domains and shared inboxes.

Why the data matters in Meet Alfred

An outreach list pulled out of Meet Alfred mixes addresses of very different value: a work address at a company domain, a personal free mailbox, a disposable address and a shared inbox like info@. Treating them all alike in a cold email tool wastes sends and dents the sender reputation of the domain you mail from. Sorting the file before the import gives each kind its own handling.

What LookValid checks

LookValid checks for Meet Alfred
ProductWhat it does hereCredits
Email Domain CheckFlags free mailbox providers and disposable domains in each row, so personal and throwaway addresses can be split from company ones. Marks role addresses such as support@ or info@, which are shared inboxes more than people. Returns whether the domain has mail servers set up. It does not confirm that the individual mailbox exists.1 credit per address checked
Website Contacts ScraperFor rows with only a company domain, reads the public pages of that domain and returns the emails and phone numbers it publishes.10 credits per domain with contacts found
Domain AgeReturns the registration date and age in days of the company domain in a row, a quick way to spot a domain registered last week.2 credits per registered domain (unregistered domains are free)

Connect it in four steps

  1. Sign up at LookValid and get a key from the API keys area, then in Meet Alfred open Contacts, then Connections, and use Export All (or select contacts first) to download a CSV with profile URLs, emails and phone numbers to your computer.
  2. Export LOOKVALID_API_KEY in the shell that runs the script, which keeps the key from landing in the exported file or in shell history files.
  3. Feed the script each email from the file; found:false lines go to a review list, and the curl command stops with the error body if the API answers with an error.
  4. Join free_provider, disposable and domain_has_mail_server back onto each row of the file and sort personal addresses away from company ones before you import the list.

A shell script on your own computer that loops over the exported file line by line and prints a checked line for each address. The call is POST https://YOUR_API_HOST/v1/email-domain-check and costs 1 credit per address checked.

The recipe returns nothing when the lookup finds nothing, which costs no credits for this product, and stops with the error code and fix on a failed request.

Without code

You can do the same in a spreadsheet by adding a column that sends each address to the email domain check endpoint through an automation platform with a generic HTTP request step, then reading the flags back into more columns. No dedicated app is involved, and the list stays a file you own.

Questions

What will sorting a list of a few thousand addresses cost?

Each address is one check at the price on the pricing page, so multiply that by your row count.

Does this connect to Meet Alfred?

No. It works on an exported file only. There is no connection to the tool and nothing in the guide automates it.

Where does the key sit when I run the shell script?

In an environment variable of that shell session, read as LOOKVALID_API_KEY. It is not written in the script or the list.
