Check email domains, domain age and links in Capsule CRM
Check the email domain behind every contact in Capsule CRM so your pipeline keeps working addresses and you can spot disposable, free-provider and role mailboxes before anyone writes to them.
Why the data matters in Capsule CRM
In Capsule a party record usually becomes a task, an opportunity and a follow-up reminder. When the email on that party sits on a throwaway domain or a domain with no mail records, the reminder still fires, the sales person still spends the time, and the opportunity still shows up in the pipeline report as if it were reachable.
What LookValid checks
| Product | What it does here | Credits |
|---|---|---|
| Email Domain Check | Reads MX, SPF and DMARC records for the domain of each party email and returns a good, risky or undeliverable signal. It looks at the domain only and never confirms that a single mailbox exists. Flags disposable domains, free mailbox providers and role mailboxes such as info@, so you can tag the party before it reaches an opportunity. | 1 credit per address checked |
| Domain Age | Returns registration and expiry dates for the website domain on an organisation, so very new domains stand out in a review. | 2 credits per registered domain (unregistered domains are free) |
| Link Safety Check | Checks the domain of a website URL against a published list of reported malicious domains. A domain that is not listed is not proof of safety. | 1 credit per URL checked (a check that cannot run is free) |
Connect it in four steps
- Sign up for LookValid, then open your dashboard and add a new key under API keys.
- Keep the key in the LOOKVALID_API_KEY environment variable on the server that runs the function, next to the Capsule personal access token you generate under My Preferences, API Authentication Tokens.
- Call the function with the email of the party you are checking: a found:false answer means nothing could be read for that address, so leave the party untouched, and an error answer carries a code and a fix that you should log.
- Send the three returned values to Capsule through its Update party operation, into custom fields named Email signal, Disposable domain and Role mailbox on the party.
A small Node function on your own server that you call for each party, either from a handler for Capsule REST hook deliveries or from a nightly loop over parties. The call is POST https://YOUR_API_HOST/v1/email-domain-check and costs 1 credit per address checked.
const API_URL = "https://YOUR_API_HOST/v1/email-domain-check";
export async function validateCapsuleEmail(value) {
const response = await fetch(API_URL, {
method: "POST",
headers: {
Authorization: `Bearer ${process.env.LOOKVALID_API_KEY}`,
"Content-Type": "application/json",
},
body: JSON.stringify({
"email": value,
}),
});
const result = await response.json();
if (!response.ok) throw new Error(`${result.error.code}: ${result.error.fix}`);
if (!result.found) return null;
return {
"Email signal": result.data?.deliverability_signal ?? null,
"Disposable domain": result.data?.disposable ?? null,
"Role mailbox": result.data?.role_account ?? null,
};
}
| Response field | Goes into |
|---|---|
| data.deliverability_signal | Email signal |
| data.disposable | Disposable domain |
| data.role_account | Role mailbox |
The recipe returns nothing when the lookup finds nothing, which costs no credits for this product, and stops with the error code and fix on a failed request.
Without code
If you would rather not host a function, an automation platform with a generic HTTP request step can do the same job without a dedicated app. Trigger on a new or updated party in Capsule, add an HTTP request step that posts the party email to the LookValid email-domain-check endpoint with your key in the Authorization header, then add a second Capsule step that writes the returned signal into a custom field on that party.
Questions
What does a check cost in Capsule?
Each lookup uses the credits shown for the email-domain-check product on the pricing page.
Can this tell me whether a contact mailbox is real?
No. The check reads the domain: its mail records, whether it is disposable, free or a role address. It never contacts a mail server, so a good signal means the domain can receive mail, not that the person exists.
Where do the two keys go?
Both live as environment variables on the server that runs the function. LookValid uses the bearer key you create in your dashboard, and Capsule accepts a bearer token in the Authorization header of each request, which a personal access token can supply.
