Role account
A role account is an email address named for a function instead of a person, such as info@, sales@ or support@.
How it works
The common names are written down in RFC 2142. Several people usually read a role mailbox, and the people behind it change, so bulk mail sent to one tends to draw complaints and little engagement.
For transactional messages a role address is fine. For marketing or lead lists, flag it and prefer a named contact.
Role accounts are not invalid, which is why they are flagged and not rejected. A role mailbox often forwards to a shared inbox with several readers, so a complaint can come from any of them and counts against your sender reputation. Keep these addresses for receipts and notices, and collect a personal address when you want a conversation.
