Domain age
Domain age is how long ago a domain name was first registered.
How it works
Newly registered domains are used for phishing and spam more often than old ones, because attackers register fresh names in bulk. Age is therefore a useful risk signal when you review a sign-up, a lead or a link.
It is only a signal. Many honest businesses are new, and old domains get bought and reused, so combine age with other checks.
Age is counted from the creation date in the registration record, not from when a site first appeared in search or when the current owner bought it. A domain that was dropped and registered again shows its new date. As a rough rule, treat names under 30 days old with extra care, and read the age next to the registrar and the mail records.
