# What is Tor exit node?

A Tor exit node is the last relay in the Tor network, the server whose address websites see when someone browses through Tor.

The Tor Project publishes the list of exit addresses, so a site can tell when a visitor arrives through one. Traffic from an exit node is anonymous by design.

Plenty of people use Tor for privacy, so treat an exit-node address as a reason to ask for extra proof, not as a verdict on its own.

The exit list changes as relays join and leave, so an address that was an exit last month may not be one now, and the reverse. Use a current copy and note its date. Traffic from an exit node can be allowed for reading and challenged only at the points that matter, such as sign-up or payment.
